DARREL SIMS

In June of 2015, Darrel Sims transferred his vision and God-given purpose into reality by cofounding K.E.Y.S (Keep Enriching Youth Success) of Houston, a non-profit organization that began servicing youth, but has since expanded and is now providing services to include adults and families.

Not only has Darrel worked with youth and young adults for over 10 years he is also a Trainer of Recovery Coaches, Certified Anger Resolution Therapist, Peer Support Specialist, Peer Specialist Supervisor, and a facilitator for the Wellness and Recovery Action Plan, all while establishing his self as a powerful force within the recovery movement. In addition to his amazing accomplishments, Darrel in 2019 began implementing Recovery Support Services within the Harris County Community Supervisions and Corrections Department to provide services to high-risk young adults. He has also implemented a pilot program in Harris County Jail in conjunction with The New Beginnings Substance Use Program to provide Recovery Coach Training to eligible participants.

As a person in long-term recovery Darrel is a man of focus, integrity, empathy, and compassion. He has rebuilt the foundation of his life by truly adhering to the “Three C’s of Life:” Choices, Chances, and Changes. The Choices we make, the chances we take, and the changes we must make will always lead to the fourth “C,” consequences of our actions. He is a firm believer that to change our thinking and actions, we must first look at our attitude and behavior. Darrel Sims is living proof that CHANGE IS POSSIBLE.

As designed, OG1 inculcates a sense of social and academic responsibility while building self-esteem, teaching self-control, discipline, emotional stability and mastering coping skills in a positive and constructive manner. "By disallowing fear to make decisions for these minors; the program subsequently, enables a child to escape the pitfalls of adolescence", says Gordon.
